“Call for Artists” starts January 1, 2017 through March 30, 2017. Notification of acceptance is on June 15th.
This has been 3 years of planning to make this event a pleasant experience for all.

All interested applicant artist will be invited to participate in our annaul “Premiere Gala” at the Big Four Bridge Lawn the evening of Sept. 8th. Which features local entertainment, beverages, snacks, performing arts, and artist booths (optional to artist). An evening with the potential for the invited patron to meet the artist in a relaxed atmosphere. This event can develop a bond for the patrons and sales for the artist.This is all optional for the artist after their set-up on Friday. Hours for the Gala are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please notiify Festival Staff that you would like to participate in this oppertunity to meet the invited patron that are known to support the arts in Louisville.
We want the Emerging Artist to participate. If you have interest in participating by showing your work and you are new to exhibiting, we ask that you use bigfourbridgeartsfestival.com web site application. There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee, you will be juried in the Emerging Artist category. Once you have been accepted you will be notified and given your schedule of dates. You will be required to attend a class are make arrangements with staff for a alternative . There is only 20 positions for the Emerging Artist category above the 80 – 100 juried artist. Booth fees are 50% of Juried Artist ($212.50, possible scholarship, or sponsorship). All transactions are handled by the Festival Staff of the bigfourbridgeartsfestival.com directly. Application dates start January 1st and end March 30th, 2017@ midnight ET. Staff will notify you of your acceptance by phone are email by April 30th. Permitted works/ and mediums
The fair is open to individual artists and co-artist who make their own fine art and fine crafts by hand. All work must be original, must be made by the artist/ co-artist, who is present at the fair.
We accept the following mediums: Oil, pastel, acrylic, pencil, sharcoal, ceramic/ ceramic sculpture, glass/ glass sculpture, jewelry, metal work/ metal sculpture, pen and ink, photography (standard and digital), printmaking, stencil, stonework, and stone sculpture, insstruments, and book arts/ papermaking. If you think your work fits our festival and is not listed, we ask that you contact us, we are open to any new creative expression made by hand. 502-435-7602.
The following items are not permitted at the festival: any work that you did not make by hand are is not your own work! This includes but is not limited to, buy sell, imported items, kit made or pattern items, commercially manufactured. If this is found you will be asked to leave the fair and forfiet all fees. This is at the discretionof the Event Manger and Festival Staff who will be the final arbitars of this decision. Please do not apply!
The Big Four Bridge Arts Festival considers its enforcement of the rules our exclusive right and responsibility. Festival team members will visit all displays throughout the Festival to ensure that exhibitors comply with the prospectus and all Festival rules.
Work in juried images must be representative of the work to be shown at the Festival and the correct inventory proportions.
Working Example: If a photographer submits 3 black and white images and 1 color image to the jury, the artist is committed to bring and sell 75% black and white photos.
Current body of work must be displayed starting from creation date of 2012 forward. Work created before 2012 will be considered reproductions and would have to adhere to the reproduction guidelines.
No mass-production or manufactured work is permitted.
All work must be designed and executed by the accepted artist(s). It is the work by the artist that is juried, therefore any change in the body of the work by the artist is not considered juried and may not be sold unless approved by the Festival Director.
Artists are required to display an Artist Statement including a photograph of the artist in their booth during the Festival.
Artists may apply in multiple categories. Each medium is evaluated separately. If you apply in more than one category, only the booth slide may be repeated.
A picture ID is required at artist check–in by all artists accepted to exhibit, including collaborating artists. In addition, the Festival reserves the right to check ID’s each day of the Festival to ensure the artist is present.
Artists may display work only in the media categories in which they are accepted. All work exhibited must be comparable to work shown in submitted images. Exhibiting work that was not juried into the Festival is grounds for removal from the show.
The sale of promotional items is prohibited. Examples include, but are not limited to: note cards, cards, postcards, cell phone holders, posters, how to books, books, calendars, t-shirts, mouse pads or photocopies of any kind.
Artists retain 100% of their sales and are responsible for the collection and reporting of all applicable sales taxes. Kentucky sales tax is 6.0%.
EZ-Up and other accordion style tents are strongly discouraged for use during the Festival. Any violation to this rule will result in the removal of the exhibitor.
Proper weight of your tent is required. Bring enough 40+ pound weights to secure your tent in the event of strong winds or storms. The Festival reserves the right to inspect the weighting of your tent.
If English is a second language for any artist and information needs communicated, the artist is required to provide access to an interpreter.
Artists will abide by Load-in/Load-out procedures monitored by Festival staff and the Louisville Metro Police. Late arrival will result in load-in at the conclusion of scheduled load-in periods. Failure to abide can affect future participation in the festival.
Reproductions must be a subsidiary part of the artist’s display.
All reproductions must be clearly and individually labeled on the front of the each piece as such; no other terms such as “print” or “offset lithograph” may be used. Required labels on artwork are to say reproduction.
Work that was made before 2012 will be considered a reproduction, will need to have labels and can’t exceed 25% of your booth.
Reproductions must be in signed editions of no more than 250, hand pulled by the artist.
No “hand-colored” reproductions.
Framed reproductions may be displayed on one wall of the booth, not to exceed ten (10) linear feet. All unframed reproductions must be displayed in browse bins.
2-D reproductions allowed with restrictions (see restrictions in Medium Definitions)
An excessive number of reproductions will not be tolerated at the Big Four Bridge Art Festival and we will be walking the festival site daily to monitor for violations. If you feel any artist is violating any of the regulations or guidelines put forth in the prospectus contacts us (firstname.lastname@example.org).
All decisions on reproductions will be made final by Artist Market staff and the Festival Director. Any non-compliance violation to reproduction decision will result in the removal of the exhibitor.
Artists are responsible for proper insurance and protection of work and setup. The Big Four Bridge Arts Festival will not be responsible for damage to work or setup. Upon acceptance, exhibitors must provide the Big Four Bridge Arts Festival with an appropriate Certificate of Insurance, naming the Big Four Bridge Arts Festival as an additional insured pursuant to a general liability insurance policy with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000. For more information, please go to Jack. You will not be permitted to set up without the required insurance information.
All artists must be present to exhibit all 3 days of the Festival. This includes collaborating artists. Proper ID is required of both artists. If artists apply as collaborating artists, each artist must be present. If each artist is not present, artists will not be permitted to set-up or exhibit.
If Artists apply as partners, each artist must be present all three days. Collaborating artists may only show their joint work. Both names must appear on all application materials.
ZAPP If you are submitting an application as a collaborating artist/partner, you must submit the name(s) with the application. Here is how to submit your Zapplication as a collaborating artist:
· Go to “my Profile: on ZAPP
· Enter one of the two collaborating artists as the primary contact in the profile form (this name will always appear first in the publications and online if accepted).
· After completing the information requested, enter the collaborating artist’s name(s) in the section at the bottom of the profile page.
· This information is carried over to the application for purposes of identifying a collaborative effort.
You may not add a partner after the jury
Entry/ Application instructions
Applications posted after 12:00 a.m. midnight Eastern Stantard Time May 1, 2017 will not be considered. We do reserve the right to refuse any application.
You may submit up to 3 applications for judging per artist profile (each application will incur a sperate $25 fee).
For a application to be processed, you must fully complete and submit the on-line application, including your digital images, and pay using and accepted credit card, Pay Pal, or check, a non-refundable $25 fee per entry. You must submit a total of 4 images, 3 images of current works and 1 of a booth image. Follow Zapp guidlines for uploading images and quality specifications. the quality of your images is very important.
All artist must submit a toatal of (4) images for jurying (3 images representative of the artist work to be exhibited; 1 of booth). Preferably an outside shot of the booth. Do not submit images with any identifiable markings or of the artist themselves. This is paramount for the jurying process.
The application will have a question for the artist description of material and technique using 300 characters or less. Please provide a balance between inspiration, material, & technique. Statements are readout loud to jurors.
We expect artist to have a varied price range. We ask that the images you submit show a range of pricing. This can be done in your booth shot if not with individual submitted image photos.

Jury is scheduled for May 14th – 16th, 2017. The jury willl select a balanced show but there are no quotas. The balance is selected by the jury. The integrity of the jury panel review process is of the greatest importance to the show and to the community as a whole. The decision of the jury is final and not subject to review. Artist that display work that is not comparable to what was juried in, will be required to remove the non-juried work. Please respect the integrity of the Festival. The Event Director and Staff will be final arbiters in such action.
Jury is conducted by a panel of 4 experienced arts industry professionals and is based solely upon the quality of work as illustrated in submitted digital images. Images are viewed by mediums and artist staement is read.
Accepted and waitlist
Artist will be notified of the acceptance via email, or phone no later than May 30, 2017. All decisions are final. A reserve list of artist will also be selected to ensure a complete and balanced show. Reserve artist will be notified by phone.
The Event Director acting on the Board of Director’s behalf, to insure a balanced show has final authority to make such adjustments as deemed nessecary and the right to invite five artists.
Waitlist artist may be notified immediately after May 30, 2017 by phone following notification of accepted artist. If you are an reserve artist notified by phone and you accept, booth fees must be paid within 15 days of notification.
Upon acceptance Exhibitors, must provide Big Four Bridge Arts Festival with an appropiate Certificate of Insurance, naming Big Four Bridge Promo as an additional insured pursuant to a General Liability Insurance policy with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000.
Booth size is 10 x 10, but each exhibitor is provoded approxiamately 200 square foot area. Due to the layout each area is approx. 20 x 20. All exhibited work should be within the 10x 10 area, with a cushion between each pysical booth. there is electricity upon reguest and at a additional cost of $35. No generators are permitted. all exhibitors are resposible for providing all display booths, racks, tables, light fixtures, and associated display equipment and supplies. Single booth is $425.00; double booth; intersecting walkway booths $800.00. Total of 5 double and intersecting booths available. First come first served.
Security on site from set-up to tear-down. Parking area has 24 hour security.
E – Z in out set-up and tear down. Vehicles must be off walks one hour before activities begin.
We all hope for great weather but if there are high winds all exhibitors are resposible to have their booth weighted in case of high winds. Accordian-style pop-ups are strongly discouraged.
Only one artist per booth unless there is a co-artist and has been applied for in application as co-artist. Artist and artist/ co-artist category must be present at check in, must be present in booth during festival hours except for reasonable breaks.
